Believe it or not, the much-loved roulette wheel was actually invented by accident. Back in the 17thcentury, a famous mathematician called Blaise Pascal had been trying to build a perpetual motion machine (this is basically a machine which can keep on moving without the need for any external source of energy). The laws of physics mean he didn’t succeed in building it– but his failed attempts did lead to something much cooler: the invention of the roulette wheel.
